Local Insight
Understanding the Peabody Contractor Market
The Leather City, 54,481 people about 17 miles northeast of Boston on the North Shore.
Peabody had 54,481 residents at the 2020 Census, up from 51,251 in 2010, on about 16.8 square miles. It was part of Salem until 1752, then part of Danvers, became the town of South Danvers in 1855, and was renamed in 1868 for philanthropist George Peabody, who was born there; it became a city in 1916. By 1855 the town had 27 tanneries, and it is still known as the Leather City or Tanner City. Today Peabody is home to the Northshore Mall, which opened in 1958 at Route 128 and Route 114, and Centennial Park, a hub for medical and technology companies. West Peabody was mostly farmland until the 1950s and is now residential, and the city owns two working farms, the 275-acre Brooksby Farm and Tillie’s Farm in South Peabody. Electricity comes from the city-owned Peabody Municipal Light Plant. Peabody borders Middleton, Danvers, Salem, Lynn, and Lynnfield. For contractors, that means established neighborhoods across the city, newer residential areas in West Peabody, and a large commercial base around the mall and Centennial Park.
Peabody Square
The historic downtown, where the community’s meeting house stood as early as 1711.
West Peabody
Farmland until the 1950s, now a residential part of the city.
South Peabody
The southern part of the city, home to the city-owned Tillie’s Farm.
Brooksby Farm Area
The area around the 275-acre city-owned Brooksby Farm and the Nathaniel Felton Houses.
Northshore Mall Area
The commercial area around the Northshore Mall at Route 128 and Route 114.
Centennial Park
The business park that is home to medical and technology companies.
Key differentiator: Peabody combines established neighborhoods, newer homes in West Peabody, and a large commercial base around the Northshore Mall and Centennial Park. Contractors who rank for both homeowner and commercial searches keep a steadier schedule.
We build separate residential and commercial pages, posts, and keywords so you show up for both kinds of Peabody jobs.
